Rodgers Banana Pudding Sauce
In April, while participating in TASTE of the Pennsula, I came across another vendor with a beautiful display. Being a southern girl, I was immediately drawn over to see what I thought was banana pudding. Well, I was right. I met Rodger and his lovely wife, of ROGER'S BANANA PUDDING SAUCE and was smitten. After tasting his dessert, layered with fresh bananas, and crisp vanilla wafers, I knew we had to carry this product in our store. Without any delay, I placed an order and we now have it in stock. We currently carry the 16oz jar for $6.00. Simply add your own bananas and vanilla wafers and your dessert is ready. No more standing over the stove and stirring custard hoping not to burn the bottom. Come in for a jar, you will be hooked too. For more information on Rodger's Banana Pudding Sauce check out his website. www.rodgersbananapudding.com.
What's Been Happening!!
Well, let me start by apologizing for not posting in a while. That show you how busy we have been. From weddings to the Portsmouth Farmer's Market and now to graduations, we have been truly blessed with business. We have some wonderful interns with loads of talent. One who just finished her internship, Maggie Sabo, will be graduating on the 14th from TCC in Norfolk, Virginia with her culinary degree! Congrats to you Maggie, and I truly hate to see you leave. You have a natural talent and will do great things in the future. Show those people in Maryland how to really make cupcakes!!! We also have Jalesa and Lanita, two high school students that are showing great promise. Last but not least, Janee'. Your came to help keep things running when we needed more counter help. You are wonderful as well. Hate to see you go as well, but it's about time to HAVE THAT BABY!!
Now, with all of that said, just want to bring you up to speed with a few things. We WON RETAILER OF THE YEAR FOR THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH 2010. Thank you Retail Alliance!! We also participated in TASTE. A fundraiser for the foodbank on the Pennisula. We had a ball. Thank you for inviting us. Hope to se you next year. We were also hired to cater a dessert social at Montgomery Grill for some city officials and everything went well. From the chocolate fountain to the shocker of the evening, chocolate covered bacon. There were plenty of desserts to choose from. Banana Pudding, Coconut cake with Key Lime frosting, cannolis and much more. Thank you to all of our customers, I hope we make you proud.

Read About Us in the Daily Press
The following is an article (Nov. 11, 2009) written by David Nicholson, a reporter for the Daily Press about our one of a kind fruitcakes:
Silverspoon Bakery in Portsmouth prepares homemade fruitcakes for the holiday season. Owner Claire Martinez has been making them since she opened the bakery in 2005.
"My grandmother used to make fruitcakes but I always thought they were dry," says Martinez. "So we use a combination of recipes for our version."
They're available through Dec. 31, and can be ordered by phone, fax or online. Cost is $10 for a one-pound fruitcake. $15 for a pound-and-a-half, and $30 for a three-pound. Martinez will ship them to you, though that costs extra. The bakery also does custom cakes and pumpkin, sweet potato and French apple pies to order.
Silverspoon Bakery, 4715 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth. Open Tuesday-Saturday. 673-8431. 405-5541 (fax). www.silverspoonva.com.
